Motor Starting

Motor starting can be confusing. This section contains overload selection charts, Star Delta kit specifications, as well as using Miniature Circuit Breakers with motors, which will hopefully help.

Motor Full Load Currents

This table is a loose guide to the amount of current a motor draws when under full load. Numerous different aspects can alter the full load current. A qualified engineer should consult the manufacturers data, or the drive plate on the motor before specifying any contactor or starter.

Schneider Star Delta Starter Kits

Star Delta starters are a particular type of motor starter, using three electro-mechanical contactors. Using these three contactors, the motor can start efficiently without risking any damage to the motor caused by a massive inrush.

The table below shows the most commonly requested Star Delta kits, organised by kilowatt rating, or power, and the parts required for a complete starter.

The information in this table came direct from the Power division of Schneider Electric and is to be used for guidance only; we accept no responsibility for it's accuracy. Please contact us for specific technical advice.

Overload Selection Chart

The table below gives an indication of the Amperage rating of Schneider Electric thermal overload relays. These are only suitable for use with Schneider contactors. Other manufacturers are available on our website.

Kilowatt to Horsepower Conversion

We have used the kilowatt rating on our contactors, but you may need to know the Horsepower rating on your motors. Please note, this is to be used as an indication only, a qualified installer will be able to advise.
